A successful PDC was held at Blue Cross and Blue Shields beautiful glass conference center. Four speakers provided updates on standards, PPE and new hazards.

January 2024 Technical Meeting

Our first Hybrid meeting consisted of a virtual presentation on EHS Strategy Building with a live studio audience. It was the best of both worlds. The ability to have a great speaker from outside of the area and the ability to network with other safety professionals.

December 2023 Christmas Meeting

A great way to end 2023! Enjoying a Doc’s BBQ meal while talking safety! See everyone next year.

November 2023 Technical Meeting

Our November Technical Meeting was on recordkeeping and the OSHA log. Robert Wiggs did a fantastic job of sharing SC DOT’s extensive injury and illness record program. Audience participation and questions provided a fantastic overview just in time for the end of the year. We collected toys for Toys for Tots, which were then delivered to the Marines. See you next month at our holiday party!

October Meeting

A big thank you to everyone who attended the October meeting on Excavation and Trenching.

2023 Region VI PDC

Members and officers attended the ASSP Region VI Professional Development Conference at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach. This annual PDC is a great opportunity to learn from national speakers, network with safety professionals from across the country and look at products and services at the exposition. Over 340 attendees broke all records! Member Antum Risk sent 20 people!! If this looks like something you would be interested in, next years PDC is in Virginia Beach.

May Meeting OSHA Roundtable

The May meeting is always well attended, with 2023 being no exception. SC OHSA provided the annual update in a panel format. Speakers addressed status on standards, emphasis programs and training. A big thnk you to all the speakers and attendees!

March 2023 Site Tour SCDOT OMR

A big thank you to SC DOT for a fantastic tour of the Office of Materials and Research Lab in Columbia. This lab tests soils, concrete, asphalt and material that goes into our road projects. Supplier material is tested for strength, cold, heat, viscocity, longevity, friction and water. We witnessed concrete break testing, water testing and saw lots of classic pencil sharpeners!

Thank you to Merrill Zwanka, Temple Short and staff for a great tour.

2023 South Carolina PDC

Our annual Professional Development Conference was held Friday February 17th at Blue Cross Blue Shield. We greatly appreciate Blue Cross Blue Shield for their generosity and accommodations. A big thank you to our speakers, attendees, and officers for making this years PDC one of the largest attended in recent history.

January 2023 Site Tour IBHS Richburg

While we were told this was corny, we were BLOWN away by this months site tour! IBHS is a testing and research facility focusing on protecting businesses and residents from wind, hail and fire perils. Our tour exposed us to all the tools the scientists of IBHS use to analyze and test risks, including a MASSIVE wind tunnel.

October 2022 Meeting

The October meeting featured Travis Carricato from E-Med Training Services. Travis presented a program on Emergency Response in the industrial setting.

We had a report on the Region VI PDC and a networking session. Don’t forget, we have a Facebook page South Carolina Chapter – American Society of Safety Professionals. Give us a look and be sure to join!

Tour of Jet-Vac (1/20/22)

A big Thank You to our friends at Jet-Vac for introducing the group to jetting and vacuum equipment and the hazards of operating them! Chapter News

We’ve had an eventful couple of months at SC ASSP!

At our November meeting we had a great presentation by one of our members, Mike Ehrmantraut, on a couple of large industrial fire investigations and we gathered an impressive amount of bike safety gear to donate to Toys-for-Tots. Thank you to all who made donations!

We had a great lunch in December to celebrate the holidays together and we welcomed a couple of new members!

We’re looking forward to a strong year with SC ASSP in 2022 and we are excited to be kicking off the year with our first site visit in a long time! Plan to join us on January 20th in Sumter for a site tour of Jet-Vac (I’m told they will be bringing out the big equipment and doing a demonstration for us!). Then mark your calendar for February 18th for our PDC! We will be applying for CEUs once again this year and already have a few great sessions lined up. More to come soon!
